Do you ever second-guess your hiring choices?
Has a new employee turned out to be a different person from the one you thought you hired?
Do your other employees ask you, “What were you thinking?!”
Do you ever wish you had a way to match a candidate’s traits with the ones needed for success on the job before you hired the prospective employee?
You are not alone…
I understand your frustration. No one hires a bad fit on purpose. It is very difficult to look across the table during an interview and determine with any kind of consistency whether the person will work out or not, without some kind of objective data about the person.
The challenge is that naturally the candidate is putting his best foot forward, but you need to see both his feet.
I compare the interview with courting for a spouse. When a man is courting his future bride, he is nice to her mother, buys flowers, and doesn’t burp at the table. The woman thinks, “He’s not perfect, but I’ll change him when I marry him!”
I’ll wait until you stop laughing . . .
Soon after the honeymoon, the husband doesn’t want to visit her mother, never buys flowers anymore, and now demonstrates his ability to win the loudest burp contest.
The same goes for the interview. The candidate is on his or her best behavior, is punctual, provides a firm handshake, makes great eye contact, and has very positive body language. The candidate also has the best answers you’ve heard in awhile. You think, “He’s not perfect, but I’ll train him when I hire him!” Well, you get the picture.
You want to hire people who are a good fit with their job, because you know these individuals will do extraordinary work and will be more satisfied and motivated to perform at their peak. What is more, a good hire makes you look good; it showcases your ability to make good hiring decisions.
Additionally, you would like to avoid turnover costs. Turnover cost varies from job to job, but it can be conservatively measured as about 40% of an employee’s annual salary! The higher the rank, the higher the cost. And it all comes out of the bottom line. One of my clients with a large sales force said it costs them $1 MILLION DOLLARS TO TURN OVER A SALES REP!
You can calculate your turnover costs for a job category by going to the turnover cost calculator and plugging in your own numbers.
But, I warn you, it is a scary thing to do!
Can there be a Simple Secret of Hiring Success? Yes: The Simple Secret is obtaining objective data on the candidate BEFORE you make a decision.
You may have used personality assessments in the past to help you make hiring decisions but found that they did not give you what you needed. What if there was a way to benchmark the skill level of top performers and use that benchmark to help you with hiring new employees?
There is. . . . A superb hiring assessment tool can help you do just that. Why use hiring assessments? A study by the Society of HumanResources Management showed that most interviewers make up their mind to hire or not based on first impressions within the first five minutes. Now that’s pretty frightening. Haven’t we all been fooled by first impressions?
Using a hiring assessment just makes good sense!
The Simple Secret is to use the Profile XT™ assessment that will help you determine if the candidate is a good match.
With the Profile XT™ you get:
- Your candidate’s Thinking Styles…his/her potential for learning, reasoning, problem solving, and abstract thinking.
- Your candidate’s Behavioral Traits…the influencing behaviors he/she exhibits. Nine traits are measured, including energy, assertiveness, decisiveness, independence, objective judgment, and more.
- Your candidate’s Occupational Interests….the prediction of motivation and satisfaction in various job positions.
- A Performance Model Comparison Report with a Total Person Job Match, overview, and coaching suggestions.
- A Total Person Interview Guide with interview questions to help focus the interview.
The Profile XT™ gives you the information you need before you make that important hiring decision. It predicts the candidate’s potential for learning, reasoning, and problem solving – all necessary skills for the job, which are NOT measured by ordinary personality assessments.
Does it work?
Client Case Study. This client has a national sales force of 200 sales reps. However, one line they were selling was not reaching potential. So they removed that product line from the other sales reps. With the help of The Profile XT™, they:
- Hired 45 sales reps in three weeks
- Required 8-10 sales calls a day (calling on optometrists)
- Took a product line that was doing $1 million dollars a year to $1 million dollars a month in SIX Months!
- Boosted the product line to $10.5 million the first year.
- Generated $24 million the second year and $34 million the next year!
After the first nine months, you had to go to sales rep number 38 before you found one that didn’t do 100% of quota. And the director of the group says they couldn’t have done it without using The Profile XT™! It works for sales reps, it works for managers, and it works for production workers!
If you have employees, you need The Profile XT™ assessment.
I’ve been helping clients with hiring, coaching, and development assessments for over eighteen years now. And you know what, I’m a PXT junkie – it really does predict behavior on the job. How do I know? My clients tell me so.
